Today goes to MLK and our forbearers who worked to end slavery, for women’s suffrage, and to establish civil rights for all. This is a tribute to those living and dead who have worked to fulfill the principles of democracy. The American people came together to elect this man who, as our leader, continues to work to overcome the roadblocks to a fair chance for all – regardless of their color, nationality or their sexual preference.

A shout out to – Santa Claus who came to visit me between shows, Saturday, in Choctaw, OK. Backstage, Santa Claus, yes the Santa Claus told me, “Bill, you’ve given me many laughs. Hey, hey, hey!” I am now sending a shout out for a non-turbulent Christmas flight to Santa.

Cookies and Milk at every home: A snack for Santa???

Changing to a healthy diet is almost as difficult to do as giving up the smoking addiction. Traditionally people put out cookies and milk for Santa and according to my friend, Dr. Alvin F. Poussaint; those are high calorie, high sugar and high fat foods. If you or the children want to leave Santa a wonderful snack, according to my friend, Dr. Barry Sears, try these:

Deviled eggs with hummus
2 egg whites hard boiled, yolks discarded
4 TBLS hummus
Paprika to taste
Slice the eggs in half (discard yolks) and fill each egg white half with one-fourth of the hummus and top with paprika to taste

One 6 oz glass of 2% milk (no side of cookies)

1 oz turkey breast, 10 grapes, 4 almonds

Veggies & Cottage cheese
¼ cup low-fat cottage cheese
½ tsp extra virgin olive oil
¼ tsp black pepper
10 green beans cut into ½ inch pieces
8 cherry tomatoes, halved
Stir the extra virgin olive oil into the cottage cheese with the pepper, beans and tomatoes

Tuna with Hummus
1 oz canned tuna packed in water
¼ cup hummus
Drain the tuna fish and mix with the hummus

Cottage cheese & Fruit
¼ cup low-fat cottage cheese
½ an apple OR ½ an orange OR 1 kiwi
1 macadamia nut OR 3 almonds

(For the cosmopolitan Santa) 1 oz piece of cheese and 4 oz red wine

Congratulations to Ashton Eaton

In the 1960′s, during my time at Temple University, I was a track man! I competed in events including javelin, shot put, 100-meter run, broad jump, and others. I love track and field because each person is working toward his or her personal best. I believe there is a sense of camaraderie among track and field athletes, that’s why the person running last is still running hard.

As we prepare to enter the 2012 Olympics, I called to chat with Team USA’s Decathlete, Ashton Easton. In speaking with Mr. Eaton, I found him to be a wonderful young man. I wish him my best, and know that he will do his best in London.
